One Pastor's Thoughts ...

Most U.S. churches are not only families of faith but communities of patriotism. I don't know about other countries,
but the churches in our country tend to celebrate our love of God and our love of country. The United States of America
is not a theocracy but churches have thrived under a system in which the government recognized the contribution of
communities of faith. We all understand the tremendous advantages of our democratic system of government.

Some people are surprised at the similarities between our government and the governance of the United Methodist Church.
They shouldn't be. Our government and our church were organized at the same period in history. We think of the birth of
our country as 1776. The Methodists were organized in America in 1784. The government has three branches - legislative,
executive and judicial. So does the United Methodist Church. We have General Conference, the College of Bishops and the
Judicial Council. Our country is divided into geographic units - cities, counties, and states. Our church is likewise comprised
of - local churches, districts, and annual conferences.

While we celebrate the birth of our nation, let us pause to give thanks to God for a system of government under which our
church has prospered. Let freedom ring. Let freedom ring in our government and let freedom ring in our churches.
God has blessed us.

In Christ,
Dr. Scott

Do We Have Your Email Address?
Trinity is looking into the possibility of sending our newsletter in email format in the near future. In order to accomplish
this, we would first need current email addresses for anyone interested in receiving the newsletter electronically. It will
take some time to get this process going, so we will update you periodically on our progress. If successful, we could
significantly reduce our printing and mailing budget by sending your newsletter via the internet rather than through the
mail. We hope by year's end to have a significant portion of our congregation receiving the newsletter electronically.
You can send your current email address to: office@trinityumcarlington.org. Please include your first and last name
on the email and state whether or not you would like to continue receiving your Entos by mail as well.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY ~ SHOWCASE

How long have you been a United Methodist? You may have questions about our faith
tradition that you'd like answers to. Abingdon Press has available a 5-session video-based
study entitled, "What Does It Mean to Be United Methodist?" This study series explores
topics from church history to methods of worship. It is great for new member classes,
refresher classes for existing members in Sunday School, or in small groups. Each video
session lasts for 15 minutes, and there is no Student book, just the VHS/DVD and a
Leader's Guide for starting a discussion on the video session. If your Sunday School class
or small study group would be interested in previewing this study, please call Rev. Brenda
Beaver at the Church Office: 817.274.1345.
